A number of prescription drug cards are available. Knowing
which card is best for you will require comparison shopping. Most have
eligibility requirements such as income limits and other restrictions.
Find out which company manufactures the drugs you take regularly, and
then find out if they offer a discount card. Some pharmaceutical companies
do not offer cards, but offer assistance to people who cannot afford drugs.
Most require an application with information about income and drug coverage
you have through an HMO or retirement benefits. Here is a sampling of
the help available:
SILVER SAVER CARD
Offered by Gov. Jeb Bush through Floridas Medicaid program.
Eligibility: Individual seniors 65 and over with Incomes between $650
and $886 a month: or couples, $876 to $1194 a month.
Benefits: Covers up to $160 in prescription drug costs a month.
Co-pay: A $2 co-pay for generics. $5 for brand name drugs on the Florida
Medicaid preferred drug list and $15 for a brand-name drug not on the
states preferred list.

PFIZER SHARE CARD
A free discount card enables low-income seniors to buy a 30-day supply
of any Pfizer prescription medicine for a flat fee of $15 a month.
Eligibility: Participants must have annual incomes less than $18,000 for
individuals or $24,000 for couples, not be eligible for Medicaid and have
no other prescription drug coverage.

LILLYANSWERS CARD
A discount card for Lillys drugs for a flat fee of $2 for a 30-day
supply. Drugs include Evlsta for osteoporosis, Prozac for depression,
and Humulin for diabetes.
Eligibility: Participants must be on Medicare and have annual incomes
less than $18,000 or $24,000 for couples and no other prescription drug
coverage.

MERCK
Offers free Merck drugs for up to one year without a card.
Eligibility: Individuals with annual incomes less than $18,000 or households
with incomes of under $24,000. Merck drugs include Zocor. and anti-cholesterol
Cozaar, for high blood pressure, and Fosamax, for osteoporosis.
